Nothing. Here is the order things happen in. export const updated_0 = "19 September 2026" export const page_0 = "/teachers/billing/held-work" **Nothing is lost.** Every submission you upload is saved. Past your limit, GradingPal keeps accepting work for a long way, and simply holds the results until you have room again. ## The ladder, in order 1. **Inside your allowance.** Work is graded and visible. Nothing to do. 2. **Past it, with credits.** Credits are spent automatically, oldest first. Work is graded and visible. 3. **Past your credits.** Work is still graded, but the results are **Held**. The row's score shows a lock, and the grading page says "This grade is ready — it's just waiting to unlock". It appears the moment you upgrade or add credits. 4. **Further out.** Work is saved but not graded. The row reads **Not graded**: "Captured — waiting to be graded". Add capacity and it grades on its own. 5. **Furthest out.** New uploads are refused. The banner reads **New uploads are being refused** and the upload dialog gives way to an upgrade prompt. The thresholds between rungs are tuned over time, so they aren't printed here. The **Billing & usage** page shows where you stand. ## What Held looks like On the Submissions tab, a **Held** lock chip in the score column. On the grading screen, a **Held** pill and a redacted card: "It's past your monthly limit, so the score is held. Get back under your limit (or upgrade) and it appears instantly — nothing is lost." The button reads **Unlock now**. A third kind of hold applies on Lite without the **All Assignment Types** add-on: quizzes, exams, worksheets, problem sets and video are graded but held with **Add the add-on**. ## Ready to unlock **Billing & usage** has a **Ready to unlock** section listing every held submission and the options that would release them: upgrade, or add credits. Pick one and they appear at once. ## Co-teachers A co-teacher sees held rows with the pill but no unlock button; the grading screen says **Held by the lead teacher**. Only the teacher whose limit it counts against can unlock. ## What this does not mean * Held is not deleted. Nothing is ever deleted for billing reasons. * Held is not "the AI didn't grade it". On rung three, it did. On rung four it will, as soon as there's room. * Students never see a billing reason. A held grade is simply not shared yet. ## What to read next How to unlock.
