# See how your class did

> Open the analytics for one assignment, and understand what you're looking at.

**Analytics are per assignment.** There is no class-level and no student-level analytics screen. The class-level roll-up that does exist is Standards, a different feature in a different tab.

### Limits and notes

* Two of the five views, **Strengths & weaknesses** and **Recommendations**, need at least three graded submissions. **Question analytics** exists only for quizzes, exams, worksheets and problem sets.
* Free accounts get a small number of previews, spent only on the first generation for a given assignment. The tab's pill counts them: **N free left**. After that it reads **Pro** with a lock.
* Held submissions aren't included.

## Open the analytics

    Open the assignment and select **Analytics**. With nothing graded yet, it says so and waits.

    Analytics build themselves as work is graded. If the tab reads **Analytics are ready to generate**, select **Generate analytics**. Generation takes one to three minutes and the page updates itself while you wait.

    Under the heading: **Based on N of M submissions · Generated** and a time. M is the number of students on the class list, so a low N means work is still missing or ungraded.

The rail on the left switches between **Overview**, **Question analytics**, **Strengths & weaknesses**, **Scores table** and **Recommendations**. [What each analytics view shows](/teachers/insights/analytics-views) takes them one by one.

## How to tell it worked

The **Overview** shows **Class mean**, **Range** and **Submitted** tiles and a **Performance summary**. A banner such as "Building class-wide patterns" means more is on the way.

## If something goes wrong

    Your free previews are used. Analytics need Pro or the **Performance analytics** add-on on Lite. Standards, on the class's Standards tab, has no plan gate.

    "Strengths & weaknesses and Recommendations require at least 3 graded submissions." Grade more.

  <Accordion title="Question analytics is missing">
    It exists only for question-based assignments. Writing, presentations, art and media show criterion breakdowns on the Overview instead.

  <Accordion title="The numbers look stale">
    "Recent changes will appear in the analytics shortly." Grades that changed are being folded in; refresh in a minute.
