# Check spelling and grammar

> Turn the check on, read what it finds, and decide what students see. Findings never change scores.

### Limits and notes

* **Findings never change scores.** The setting's own hint says it: "Scores follow your rubric."
* Students see every finding you don't dismiss. Dismissing is an editorial decision, not housekeeping.
* Not available for video and audio assignments.

## Turn it on

The switch is **Check grammar**, in the **Grading rules** of any assignment: section 6 of Instant, the **Feedback** step of Guided (or the **Handout** step for question-based work), and **Feedback & grading** on the Assignment tab afterwards. Turning it on for already-graded work runs the check in the background; open a submission once it finishes to see its **Grammar** tab.

## Read the findings

On the grading screen, the **Grammar** tab shows a count and the language checked, then four tiles that double as filters: **Spelling**, **Grammar**, **Punctuation**, **Capitals**. Each finding quotes the student's words and the suggested fix, with a page tag for scanned work. Click a finding and the passage is marked in the work. On question-based screens the same list sits in a **Grammar** tab on each question card.

A warning icon on a finding means the AI may have misread the handwriting. Check it against the page.

## Decide what the student sees

Expand a finding and select **Dismiss — won't appear in feedback**. It stays in your list, struck through, and the student never sees it. **Restore** brings it back.

## How to tell it worked

The **Grammar** tab shows a count, and the count drops as you dismiss. A tab reading 0 means the check ran and found nothing.

## If something goes wrong
