# Export scores and reports

> Get the scores out as a file for your own gradebook, and know where the standards reports live instead.

### Limits and notes

* Held submissions, the ones past your monthly limit, are left out of the file.
* One assignment per file. For a class-wide view across assignments, use the standards reports.

## Export the scores

    Open the menu beside the main button at the top of the assignment and select **Export scores**. The same button sits above the **Scores table** in Analytics.

    **Excel** is the default; **CSV** opens anywhere.

  <Step title="Choose how scores show">
    **Percentage**, such as 78%, or **Points**, such as 7/10. **Color-code scores (heat map)** shades the cells; it's on by default and Excel only.

  <Step title="Export">
    Select **Export Excel** or **Export CSV**. The file is named after the assignment, ending in **Scores**.

## What's in the file

One row per student, sorted by overall score. Columns: **Student**, **Overall**, then one column per rubric criterion, or one per question grouped by section for question-based work, then **Status**. An unanswered question reads **N/A**.

Not in the file: feedback, comments, grammar findings, or anything held. For feedback on paper, use **Print & hand back**.

## Standards reports

Mastery and standards live in the class's **Standards** tab, not here. Its **Export standards** dialog offers **Class summary**, **Student report** and **Evidence detail**, with a **For families** option. [Export standards reports](/teachers/insights/standards-reports) covers them.

## How to tell it worked

The file downloads and opens with a **Student** column and one row per graded student.

## If something goes wrong

    Their work is held past your monthly limit, or hasn't been graded. Unlock or grade it and export again.
