Who can use this?

  • Who: Teachers and co-teachers
  • Plans: All plans
  • Where: An assignment's Submissions tab

Limits and notes

  • Documents up to 100 MB each. Video and audio up to 250 MB each. A batch scan is one PDF up to 250 MB.
  • One assignment can’t mix documents with video or audio.
  • Every submission you upload counts toward your monthly limit, whichever route it takes.
  • You can upload for any assignment, including one where students normally submit themselves.
Video and audio assignments accept media files only and don’t offer Batch Scan.

Upload files for the class

1

Open the upload dialog

Open the assignment. On its Submissions tab, select Upload submission at the top right. If the assignment has no work yet, the Upload student work button in the bar at the top opens the same dialog.
2

Choose how the files are organised

Keep Individual files [1] for one file per student; you can add many at once. If you scanned the whole class into one PDF, choose Batch Scan instead and GradingPal splits it into one submission per student.
3

Add the files

Drag the files into the dialog, or select Your device or Google Drive. The dialog states the size limit and warns you if a file can’t be graded in this assignment.
4

Upload

Select Upload N files, or Upload & split for a batch scan. The button reads Uploading… until the files are in.
5

Confirm who each file belongs to

Match submissions opens on its own. Each row shows the file, the name GradingPal detected and a confidence pill. Check the rows that say Verify or Low, fix any that say Needs student by choosing the student from the dropdown, then select Confirm & grade N. Grading starts right away.

Paper and multi-page work

  • A stack for the whole class: scan it into one PDF, every student’s pages together and in order, and choose Batch Scan. Split one scan into many submissions
  • Several pages or photos from one student: combine them into one PDF before uploading. Uploaded as separate files, each page becomes its own submission, and matching won’t let two files share a student, so they end up as Needs student.
  • Double-sided tests: scan both sides, in page order.
  • Names: put the student’s name on the first page, or in the file name. That’s where matching looks.
  • Quizzes and worksheets: set up the assignment with the blank handout first. The student work comes after, once the questions exist.
  • Scanners: any scanner or phone scanning app that makes a PDF works. A normal resolution reads better and stays under the size limit. A scan or handout was not read has more advice.

Upload for one student

To add or replace one student’s work, find their row on the Submissions tab. On a Missing row, select Upload work. The dialog is titled Upload work for and the student’s name, takes one file, and its button reads Upload & grade. There’s no matching step; grading starts as soon as the file is in. On a row that says Can’t grade because the file itself is the problem, the row offers Replace file. It opens the same one-file dialog.

When a Classroom turn-in didn’t arrive

For an assignment collected through Google Classroom, the Submissions tab has an Import from Classroom button next to Upload submission. It lists work students turned in on Classroom that isn’t in GradingPal yet, and importing starts grading straight away.

How to tell it worked

Each uploaded row moves from Submitted to AI grading, then to Needs review when the AI finishes. The bar at the top of the assignment reads Grading N of M… while it runs, then Review N grades. To leave the page while it works, select Notify me when done in the toolbar and your browser will tell you.

If something goes wrong

The message names the rule: “Documents must be under 100 MB”, “Video & audio must be under 250 MB”, “A batch scan must be under 250 MB”, or “That file type can’t be graded in this assignment”. Scan at a lower resolution, split the file, or convert it to PDF and try again.
“Upload either documents or video/audio, not both.” Remove one kind. Media and documents can’t be graded together in one assignment.
GradingPal couldn’t tell whose work it is. Select Assign on that row and pick the student.
You’re past your monthly limit and the account can’t take more work right now. Nothing you already uploaded is lost. Add capacity or upgrade, then upload again.
Opens GradingPal on the screen this page describes.
