Who can use this?

Limits and notes

  • There is no separate instructions page. The library opens from inside an assignment, and what you save there is ready on every assignment from then on.
  • An instruction applies from the next grading run. Assignments already graded are untouched unless you save with Save & re-grade.
  • Some requests are declined or redirected. See below.

The two libraries

Grading instructions shape how the AI scores: Judge it as a whole, Require every element, Give credit for a valid method, Go easy on handwriting and scans. Feedback instructions shape how it writes: Sound like me, not a bot, Use their first name, Plain words, no jargon, Praise something specific. Each library also lists what GradingPal does on every assignment with no setup, so you don’t repeat it.

Open the library

Under Your grading instructions or Your feedback instructions, select Browse the library. The rail runs Most used, the categories, Everything, then Your prompts.

Add, or make it yours

Select Add on a card. Customise opens a copy you can reword; it’s saved under Your prompts and the original stays as it was.

Or write your own

Select Write your own. Give it a Name and fill in What the AI is told, such as “This is their first lab report, so go gently on the method section.” Select Save to my prompts.

Make it automatic

Turn on Always include this to add the instruction to every new assignment, for All my classes or Only certain classes.
On the assignment, each instruction shows a badge: Library, Your prompt, Your words or Always on. Reword for this assignment changes it here only.

What it won’t accept

The editor says why and stops you saving:
  • Plagiarism or AI-writing detection. “GradingPal cannot tell you whether work was copied or AI written. The checks that claim to are unreliable.”
  • Curving, ranking, or a floor across the class. Each student is graded on their own work; the AI never sees the rest of the class.
And it redirects requests that a control already handles: length to Feedback length, translation to the language fields, hiding the score to Hide points from students, a named tone to Feedback style, spell-checking to Check grammar.

How to tell it worked

The instruction appears in the stack under the field with its badge, and the assignment’s Settings > Grading tile counts it.

If something goes wrong

It applies from the next grading run. Regrade, or save the settings with Save & re-grade.
Open the library and select Your prompts in the rail. Edit on the card changes or deletes it.
The instruction is always-on for this class. Remove it from the stack below if you don’t want it this time.
