What counts toward your limit

One rule: every submission counts, however it arrived. A submission is charged once, when it’s created. Nothing that happens to it afterwards charges again. A submission is one student’s work on one assignment. A class set of 30 essays is 30 submissions, not one.

The routes that count

Named individually, because each one gets asked about:

The one exemption

The sample class you picked during onboarding. Its graded work is a copy and never counts.

What this does not mean

A regrade is not a charge. A submission pays once, at creation. Regrading it, or retrying one that failed, is free.
A failed grading attempt is not a charge. If grading fails and the submission is removed, what it used is returned to you.
A student’s resubmission is not a second charge. A new attempt replaces the last one on the same row.
Sharing is not a charge. Neither is exporting, printing or previewing.

Where to see the count

The usage chip next to your account menu, and the Usage block on Billing & usage. For paid plans the count resets with your billing period; on Free it resets each calendar month.
