Limits and notes

  • Sharing a grade you haven’t reviewed approves it.
  • A shared submission can’t be regraded, and once anything in an assignment has been shared, the assignment’s questions, rubric, handouts and grading rules are locked.
  • GradingPal works out how each student receives feedback. You don’t choose per student: it goes by Google Classroom where the student is on the Classroom roster, otherwise by email, and it can’t reach a student who has neither.

Share with the whole class

Open the share dialog

Open the assignment. When rows are Ready to share, the bar at the top reads Share with class, or Share feedback for an assignment where you upload the work yourself. Select it.To share only some students, tick their rows on the Submissions tab and select Share with class · N in the bar that appears at the bottom.

Choose digital or paper

The dialog Share feedback with students offers Share digitally and Print & hand back. Choose Share digitally. For paper, see Print and hand back below.

Read how your students will get it

Under How your students will get it, the dialog counts students three ways: via Google Classroom, by email, and can’t be reached yet [1]. For the last group, select Add emails and type an address for each, or select or print their reports. Students you don’t fix here get nothing.

Decide about unreviewed grades

If the dialog says some grades still need review, they won’t go out. Select Approve all N to include them. If you ticked rows yourself, the dialog instead says “Sharing approves them”.

Choose whether to post to Google Classroom

For a class connected to Classroom, turn on Post to Google Classroom with grades attached to put the grade and a feedback link on each student’s Classroom submission. Off, nothing is posted and those students get feedback by email.

Share now, or schedule

Under When students get it, keep Share now, or choose Schedule for later and pick a time. Times are read in the class’s time zone. Select Share now, or Schedule.
Choose Print & hand back in the first dialog, or or print their reports in the second. The Export N submissions dialog lets you choose what to include, such as rubric scores and feedback, then Export N downloads a ZIP named after the assignment with one PDF per student, each named with the student’s name and the assignment title. For one student it downloads a single PDF.

Share with one student

On a Ready to share row, select Send, or Share for work you uploaded. On the grading screen, select Share. The dialog is titled Share followed by the student’s name, shows how that one student will receive it, and lets you type an email on the spot if they have none. Its button is Share now, or Save and share when you’ve added an email.

How to tell it worked

A toast says Shared feedback with N students. Each shared row changes to Shared, its main action becomes View, and the bar at the top reads All N graded and shared. If you scheduled it, the bar shows a chip reading Feedback goes out with the time, and a cross to cancel. Students on the Classroom roster see the grade and a link on their Classroom submission. Students on email get a message titled Your feedback for the assignment name is ready, with a See your feedback button.

If something goes wrong

They have no email and aren’t on the Classroom roster. Select Add emails in the dialog, or print their reports. You can add an email later from the row menu with Edit student details, and then Send on that row.
Sharing stops rather than half-completing. Reconnect Google Classroom from your class settings and try again, or turn off Post to Google Classroom with grades attached and share by email.
Check their row says Shared, not Ready to share. Approving doesn’t share. If it says Shared, open the row menu and select Resend feedback link. If you scheduled the release, nothing goes out until that time.
It was never opened to students. Sharing opens it, so they can see the assignment and their feedback together. Nothing else changes.
