Assignment settings - GradingPal Help

The Settings tab lists its sections in a rail: General, Schedule, Submission rules, Grading, Standards, Distribution, Danger zone. Nothing saves as you go. A bar counts your unsaved changes and offers Discard and Save changes; a toast reads Settings saved. Assignments where you upload the work yourself don’t show Schedule or Distribution, and hide Maximum attempts.

General

Setting	What it does
Title	Shown to students and on your dashboard
Type	Read-only. Set at creation, not editable here
Class	Read-only. Each class has its own copy of the assignment
Folder	Files the assignment under a unit or topic
Duplicate this assignment	Opens the duplicate dialog. See below

Schedule & availability

Setting	What it does
Visibility	Read-only: where the assignment stands for students right now, from Draft to Closed
Open date (or Post date for Classroom)	When students can first see and start it. Disabled once it’s live: use Close for submissions to stop new work
Due date	The deadline students see. A due date passing does not close the assignment
Allow late submissions	Lets students submit after the due date. Late work is flagged Late
Late submission deadline	Optional hard cutoff after which nothing is accepted. Only shown when late submissions are allowed

Submission rules

Setting	What it does
Where student work comes from	The three collection cards. Changing this never deletes submissions; it changes what the assignment leads with. Switching to Classroom posts the assignment there
Maximum attempts	1 to 5, default 1. Higher lets students resubmit; a new submission replaces the last

Grading

Read-only tiles showing the feedback style, length, instructions, languages, partial credit, grammar check and whether points are hidden. Select Edit on Assignment tab to change any of them.

Standards

Read-only list of the standards tagged on the rubric, with Edit on Assignment tab. For a class tracking mastery, Assessment purpose is set here: it decides how much these grades count toward students’ mastery levels.

Distribution

Setting	What it does
Assigned class	Read-only. An assignment belongs to one class
Google Classroom	The link status: Connected — syncing, Not posted yet with a Post to Google Classroom button, or Not posted for assignments not collected through Classroom
Post feedback to Google Classroom	When you share feedback, adds a graded item to Classroom so students see their grade there. Off, students get feedback by email
Join link	Copy join link for classes collecting in GradingPal. The link is the class’s, not this assignment’s

Danger zone

Row	What it does
Close for submissions / Re-open for submissions	Stops or resumes new work. Nothing else changes
Delete assignment	Moves the assignment and its submissions to the class’s Deleted bin. Students lose access at once; you can restore it later

Duplicate an assignment

Duplicate this assignment under General opens Duplicate assignment. Give it a New name, choose Add to class, pick how students will submit, and optionally set the open and due dates. The rubric, questions and settings carry over. Submissions and grades do not. The copy is always a draft, and it opens as soon as it’s made.

Restore a deleted assignment

On the class’s Assignments tab, select Deleted. The dialog lists deleted assignments with a Restore button on each.

What this does not mean

A due date passing does not close an assignment.
Deleting does not erase. The Deleted bin keeps everything until you restore it.
Changing where work comes from does not delete work already collected.
