  • Who: Teachers and co-teachers
  • Plans: All plans
  • Where: The assignment's Assignment tab

Limits and notes

  • Once grades have been shared with students, editing is locked. The lock covers the rubric, the questions, the handouts and the grading rules. This is permanent; adjust individual submissions from the grading page instead.
  • While grading is running, editing pauses. It resumes when grading finishes.
  • For question-based work, Type and Handout lock once the handout has been read. Questions and answer keys stay editable.
  • The assignment type can’t be changed here or in Settings. It’s set at creation and locks once submissions exist.
  • Saving a change to graded work offers to regrade everything. A regrade replaces your own edits to those grades.

Where the editor lives

Open the assignment and its Assignment tab. The rail on the left lists the sections. For writing, presentations, art and media: Overview, Prompt & resources, Handouts, Rubric, Feedback & grading. For quizzes, worksheets, exams and problem sets: Overview, Exam handout, Questions & rubric, Feedback & grading.

The choice after an edit

If work has already been graded, saving opens Save and re-grade N submissions? with two buttons.
  • Save & re-grade saves the change and runs the AI again on every graded submission. Grades and feedback refresh in a few minutes. Anything you edited by hand on those submissions is replaced.
  • Keep editing closes the dialog without saving, so you can change your mind.
The dialog names what it will touch. Editing one question says that question will be regraded for everyone; deleting a question says its grades and feedback go with it.

How to tell it worked

A toast confirms the save, such as Rubric saved or Questions saved. If you chose to regrade, the rows on the Submissions tab go back to AI grading, then Needs review.

If something goes wrong

Grades have been shared. The lock is permanent for this assignment. To make the change, duplicate the assignment from Settings and edit the copy.
Wait for the bar at the top to stop reading Grading N of M…, then try again.
The grades on the affected submissions were cleared. Select Regrade submission on each affected row to run them again.
You asked the assistant for edits and haven’t reviewed them. Select Review changes and accept or reject each one first.
Opens GradingPal on the screen this page describes.
