Limits and notes

  • A reason is required for every change. It’s your record of the judgment, not a report to anyone. Students never see it.
  • A regrade replaces your changes along with everything else. Change scores after regrading, not before.
  • Shared work is locked. You can’t change a score once the student has it.

Change a level or the points

Pick the new level or type the points

On a criterion card, click a different segment of the level bar, or open View all levels and choose one. To set points directly, click the points number (the tooltip says Click to set points), type a number and press Enter. The card warns if the number is outside that level’s usual range.

Say why

The card asks Why are you changing this? and shows the change: “AI: Proficient (3) → You: Exemplary (4)”. Choose Too harsh, Too generous, Missed evidence, Misread the work or Rubric judgment [1]. Other… opens a box for a short note.

Confirm

Select Confirm change. The card shows Edited by you, and hovering it shows what the AI had and your reason. Revert puts the AI’s score back at any time.

On question-based work

Objective questions, such as multiple choice or matching, are scored from the recorded answer against your answer key, so the fix is usually to correct the recorded answer rather than the score. When you do change one, the reasons are different: AI misread the student’s answer, Answer key is wrong, Accepting an equivalent answer or Illegible or ambiguous response. Grade a quiz, exam, worksheet or problem set covers that screen.

Changes made through Ask GradingPal

If you ask the assistant to adjust a score and accept its suggestion, the change is recorded with the reason AI suggestion accepted. It shows on the card the same way.

How to tell it worked

The criterion card carries Edited by you, the total score at the top of the tab has changed, and the amber ring around the card is gone.

If something goes wrong

Pick a reason chip, or type a note under Other…. One or the other is required.
Points must be between 0 and the criterion’s maximum. Numbers outside a level’s normal range are allowed but flagged.
The submission was regraded. A regrade replaces your edits. Make the change again, and don’t regrade afterwards unless you mean to.
The work has been shared. Shared submissions are locked.
